What is a setting?

The setting is how the stone is held in the ring. It determines the ring’s overall look, how much the stone is protected, and how light interacts with the gem. The same center stone can look dramatically different depending on the setting.

Solitaire

A single stone, elevated on prongs, with no additional embellishments. The most timeless design — it lets the center stone do all the talking. Best for those who prefer understated elegance and plan to pair with a decorative wedding band.

Halo

Small diamonds surround the center stone, creating the illusion of a larger gem. Amplifies sparkle and works exceptionally well with colored center stones. Best for maximizing visual impact.

Hidden halo

Small diamonds set beneath the center stone, visible from the side but not from above. The compromise for someone who loves the solitaire’s simplicity but wants a secret detail.

Pavé

Tiny diamonds set along the band, creating a continuous line of sparkle from every angle. Best for those who love maximum shimmer across the entire ring.

Three stone

Three stones side by side — traditionally representing past, present, and future. Creates a substantial, balanced look. Side stones can match or contrast the center.

Bezel

Metal wraps completely around the stone’s edge. The most protective setting — ideal for active lifestyles. Gives a modern, sleek appearance.

Toi et Moi

Two stones side by side — “you and me” in French. Often features contrasting shapes or colors. A romantic, unique conversation piece.

Practical considerations

Active lifestyle

Bezel and low-profile solitaire settings are most practical. Pavé and halo may require occasional maintenance.

Band pairing

Solitaire and bezel pair with nearly any band. Halo and three-stone may need a contoured shadow band for a flush fit.
