Choosing a wedding band to match your engagement ring
From flush-fitting contoured bands to contrasting styles — how to find the perfect partner for your ring.

Match or contrast?
The first decision: do you want a band that blends seamlessly with your engagement ring, or one that provides visual contrast? Matching creates an elegant, unified look. Contrasting — a plain band against a pavé engagement ring, or a diamond band against a simple solitaire — creates visual interest and lets each piece stand on its own.
Setting compatibility
| Engagement style | Band recommendation |
|---|---|
| Solitaire | Virtually any band works — straight or contoured |
| Halo | A straight band may leave a gap; contoured/shadow band recommended |
| Three stone | Contoured band to fit around side stones, or wear with a gap |
| Pavé | A plain metal band creates contrast; another pavé band creates continuity |
| Bezel | Straight band sits flush — most versatile engagement style for pairing |
Metal matching
Traditionally, the engagement ring and wedding band are the same metal. But mixing metals is increasingly popular — a rose gold band with a white gold engagement ring, for instance. If you mix metals, consider whether the metals will wear at different rates (white gold may need re-plating while yellow gold will not).
Mercury & Sol’s “Complete the Look” feature shows your chosen engagement ring paired with our recommended wedding bands directly on the product page — no guesswork required.
