Why mix metals?

Two-tone designs offer the best of both worlds. A white gold or platinum-toned basket holds the center stone, allowing the stone to appear brighter against the cool metal (colored stones in particular benefit from this). Meanwhile, the band can be warm yellow or rose gold, adding personality and complementing your skin tone.

Common combinations

White basket + Yellow band

The most popular two-tone choice. The white metal enhances the stone’s brilliance while the yellow band adds warmth. Works with every stone color.

White basket + Rose band

Romantic and modern. The rose gold band adds a blush warmth that pairs especially well with pink sapphires and morganite.

How it works with our configurator

Mercury & Sol rings are designed in CAD with separate metal groups for different zones — the basket (head), the band (shank), and sometimes side stone baskets. Our 3D configurator lets you change each zone independently, so you can preview exactly how your two-tone combination will look before ordering.

There is no additional cost for two-tone designs at Mercury & Sol — every ring is made to order, and the metal configuration is part of the standard customization process.
